Care for your new or existing hardwood floor

Cleaning - keep your floors vacuumed and clean.  Dust and dirt under shoes acts like  sandpaper.  This constant abrasion rubs off the finish.  Mats should be placed at entry doors to minimize dirt being carried onto floors.  Vacuum as soon as dust is noticeable. Damp mop your floor when it is dirty.  It's best to use a wood floor cleaning kit.  The cleaner should not have wax in it or it will leave a residue on the floor.  We recommend Poly Care floor cleaner or Bona Floor cleaner (depending on the finish).

Protect - Heavy duty felt protectors under the legs of chairs and other furniture that gets moved back and forth.  Keep pets nails trimmed.  Keep plants in containers that will not leak.  If any water does spill on the floor it should be cleaned up immediately.  Control humidity levels with a dehumidifier or humidifier.  Humidity levels should be between 30 and 50%.  This will  maintain the moisture in the wood and minimize cracks between boards.

To keep your floors at their best it is recommended a light sanding every 12 months or when every necessary.  Call Olie's for all your hardwood flooring needs.
